Potty Training Easton

Oh the joys of potty training. This was the one thing I was dreading as a parent. I had no idea where to start or what to do. All I knew was what my mom told me she did with my brothers when they were little and that was to put cheerios in the toilet and tell them to shoot the cheerios. Yeah, he didn't really do that. So we made him a sticker chart and bought him toy. If he filled up his sticker chart then he got his toy. He did not understand that concept at first and was very upset when he couldn't have the toy right away but he slowly caught on and was so excited whenever he would get a sticker. He did so well the fist week, then kind of regressed for some reason. It was very frustrating to have him regress because we knew he could do it but, he was still learning and it had only been a week. After a week and a half of potty training we left to my parents house for a week. We were a little nervous not knowing how well or not well East would do with telling us he had to go potty however, he did pretty good. We were happy and surprised when he told us he needed to go on the plane. So he went on the plane. When we were driving with my parents in the car he told us he needed to go potty and was squirming in his carseat so we told my dad to pull over and we let East pee on the side of the road (blocked by the car of course so no one could see). It was great that he told us he needed to go and that we were able to let him go, however, letting him pee in the grass opened up new peeing possibilities to Easton. While at my parent's we would look over at him and find him in the yard with his pants pulled down peeing in the grass. When asked what he was doing he would say "I peeing in the grass" like it was no big deal. He did that several times. It wasn't a big deal at my parent's for him to do that but when we got back to Village Green I found him dropping his pants at the playground and peeing. I had to explain to him that it is not ok to pee outside where people could see you. Also while we were at my parent's house Easton needed to poop, so Kyle took him to the bathroom to help him out. Kyle said that when East was finished he looked in the toilet and said "look daddy, a hot dog poop" we thought that was pretty clever and hilarious. He wasn't perfect while we were on vacation, there were of course a few accidents but for the most part he did great with his potty training.

When we got back from my parent's we were only home for a couple days then left again to Utah to visit Kyle's family. This time we would be camping in tents and boating, pretty much Easton's dream for peeing outside. While we were with Kyle's family he got to pee on cacti and off the side of the boat. He thought that was pretty awesome. While on both vacations he was a little hesitant to let us know he needed to pee and would never tell us he needed to poop. We do not know why we was like that but since being home and back to routine he has been much better about telling us he needs to go potty. He usually yells really loud with lots of urgency when he needs to go. He yells: "potty daddy!!" or "potty momma" or just "potty!!" I think he has the peeing part down we are just trying to get the pooping part. He wears a pull-up at night though because he doesn't want to give up his milk at night yet but we will get there. Overall we are very proud of our little man. He is growing up so fast and is not a toddler anymore he is a little boy. He will be 3 here in a couple of months, I can't believe how time flies!!
